Brief
info: The
requirements were those of a normal large corporate
office. This meant a reception a work-pool, conference
areas, GM's room's telex-room and other services.
We considered the basic problem in the inconvenient
layout of the existing building which oriented the
two major accesses in opposite directions. A major
break-through in design which tipped the scales in
our favor was that a common reception area was designed
such it was accessible from both the staircase as
well as the elevator bank, in a deliberately articulated
manner. This included a small structural addition
over the existing staircase, which raised the level
of the entrance lobby for want of headroom. But this
was taken care of by 3 steps, which made the transition
in levels interesting and added a new dimension to
the interior space.
Special requirements of the client were a series of
small conference rooms, which could be joined together
by opening a sliding folding screen to accommodate
at least fifty persons at one time. The client was
very vocal and specific about the requirements, which
helped us freeze most designs rapidly, and to be tailored
to fit the precise use.
