Brief
info: The
restaurant was supposed to be a Specialty Restaurant
with a theme. The space available was about 2000 sqft
in the basement. Once having decided on the theme
of an 'underground metro' the task ahead was to lend
genuinely to every little detail that went into it.
The escalator at the entrance took you down into the
Restaurant. The escalator in this case was not a real
one but instead the steps were treated with aluminium
cladding to look like an escalator. The existing columns
were turned into information stacks and the walls
around were treated with the visual effects of lockers,
T.V. screens showing information, etc. The graphics
signage, typical of transit Restaurants shows the
way to the essential facilities.
The use of mirrors is highly pronounced. These are
used mainly to give the feeling of continuity to the
compartment and the platform. The adjacent faces of
the walls of the Metro, on both ends have large mirrors.
This gives the feeling of any infinitely long train.
This effect is repeated in the ceiling. The ceiling
used for this section is a curved coffered ceiling,
to give the tunnel effect. The portion above the bogie
up to the ceiling is again mirrored. This tends to
complete the semi-circular tunnel effect.
